Eye Examinations
All eye examinations are personally conducted by our optometrists - Wayne Derrick, Graham Bohl and Laura Anders - not handed off to assistants. This ensures continuity of care so that subtle changes in your vision or eye health aren’t overlooked.

We pride ourselves on using the latest diagnostic technology. Every thorough eye exam includes laser-scanning OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and digital retinal photography as standard. We also use the feather-light iCare tonometry for pressure measurement - so you won’t need to endure the uncomfortable air-blast test when screening for glaucoma.

Our advanced equipment allows us to check all areas of your eye health: front and back of the eye, optic nerve, retinal layers, peripheral vision, cornea curvature and more. This level of detail helps us detect conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease at an early stage.

We believe in full-service care — from vision testing to eyewear fitting - under one roof. Our examination process ensures that once your eye health and prescription are assessed, we can also help you choose the right lenses and frames.

OCT Laser Scan
We use Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) — one of the most advanced tools in modern eye care.
This non-invasive scan produces detailed, 3D cross-section images of your retina, optic nerve and cornea, allowing our optometrists to detect even the smallest changes in your eye health.

OCT technology helps identify early signs of eye diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy - often before symptoms appear.
The scan is quick, painless, and provides invaluable insights into your long-term vision health.

OCT Test Procedure
In most cases no dilating eye drops are required for the scan. In some cases we may decide to use dilating drops to improve the image quality.

-
You will be seated in front of the OCT machine and your head rested on a support to keep it very still.
-
It is important that you keep still and looking directly at the green target light, which sometimes appears to be outside the machine.
-
The equipment will then perform a series of scans on your eye. Scanning usually takes between 2 and 10 minutes.
-
After the OCT scan, a report with images is immediately generated. We will then examine the results and show you if you are interested.

Digital Retinal Photography
Our digital retinal imaging system captures ultra-high-resolution photographs of the back of your eye.
These images allow us to carefully examine your retina, macula and optic nerve for changes linked to conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, or retinal detachment.

By storing these images in your personal eye-health record, we can compare results over time and monitor any subtle changes that may indicate developing eye conditions.
Why These Tests Matter
Combining OCT scans with digital retinal photography gives our optometrists the most comprehensive view of your eye health.
Together, these technologies help detect issues that may not show up in standard vision tests, enabling earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment.

The process is fast, comfortable, and non-invasive, taking less than 10 minutes to complete. After your scans, your optometrist will review the images with you and discuss any findings or next steps.
